I...spotted this announcement and thought perhaps some of the high school students from past years might like to try their hand at a new environment:
"Girls on Ice is a unique, FREE, wilderness science education program for high school girls that takes place in the North Cascades in Washington state. Each year a team of 9 teenage girls and 3 instructors spend 11 days exploring and learning about mountain
glaciers and the alpine landscape through scientific field studies with professional glaciologists, mountaineers, and some years, artists as well."
The applications are now available for this year's program in July and August. Applications are due 1 Mar: http://girlsonice.org/

Visitor.

A bobcat visited the camp the other day, hanging out for a while on a snowbank rather than running away as they usually do.
It was getting dark, so the photos are not great.

Strange tracks

Saw some strange tracks in the woods the other day. Big, but very short stride, with bloody drips here & there along the track. Also saw some larger spots that were possibly blood. The color in the picture is pretty accurate.any ideas what creature has big feet, but short legs? Tracks were a bit too old to identify pad patterns.
