The old station utility truck has been slowly (& very expensively) trying to die since our arrival at Sagehen. As the transaxle began to fail, we finally let it.

We located a well-tended Blazer at Campus Surplus with very low miles. Purchasing this vehicle provides us with what we really need: a smaller, comfortable, snow & off-road capable vehicle with modest passenger & load carrying capacity. The total cost of the vehicle was less than the transaxle repair would have been & our gas mileage has more than doubled, so the savings are already adding up!

Serendipitously, we also located & purchased a panel truck at Campus Surplus. This is a big vehicle with a hydraulic lift-gate for our periodic massive carrying needs. The truck is also large enough to tow the tractor or the snow cat & the lift-gate has already come in handy for moving heavy things around the station.

The last of the 50th Anniversary Reunion visitors left this morning.

What a great event! It was wonderful to meet all the Sagehen alumni from the early days of the station, see their photos & hear their stories. It has helped us get a better sense of the amazing impact their work--done in very difficult circumstances--had & continues to have on public land management policies.

The event was also an awesome opportunity for the current partners to get together to learn a bit about other efforts & interested parties. It will be interesting to see the effects of this synergy in the coming months. Some things we have already seen include a great article in the San Francisco Chronicle.

We continue to see phenomenal support from Beth Burnside, the UC Berkeley Vice Chancellor for Research. She brought the entire staff to the reunion & just provided us with additional facilities funding for a faculty cabin.

Thanks to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to be a part of this historic Sagehen event!

The summer season is winding down as students & researchers depart Sagehen in anticipation of the resumption of classes. We will get busy with visiting courses again after the start of the fall semester. Once again, we finished the fiscal year with our busiest season ever: almost 6,000 user days!

We're busy preparing for the 50th Anniversary Reunion this week--getting everything cleaned up & ready for visits, meetings & presentations. Some of the original researchers have loaned us their slides for digitizing, so we have some great old images available now.
